The Study of Antiretroviral Utilization in Hospitalized Patients with HIV/AIDS
at Department of Infection Disease Intermediet Cure Dr. Soetomo General
Hospital Surabaya
The purpose of this study was to analyze the antiretroviral (ARV/ART)
utilization in HIV/AIDS patients who were hospitalized during January 1st , 2004
until December 31 st, 2005. This study used descriptively analysis by using
retrospective data from patient’s medical record. The results showed that ARV which
most used were lamivudine (32,54%), zidovudine (31,95%), nevirapine (30,18%),
efavirens (2,96%), stavudine (1,78%), didanosine (0,59%) and the combination
which mostly used was zidovudin + lamivudin + nevirapin (80,89%). From this
study, 96,61% patient conformed to WHO guidelines (ARV was recommended
to patient Stage III dan IV WHO irrespectively of total lymphocyte count). There
were 21,67% patient which changing or stopping ARV because adverse drug
reaction. Zidovudine caused haematological toxicity (decreased Hb and WBC).
Nevirapine caused drug eruption or Steven Johsons Syndrom and hepatotoxicity
(elevated SGOT and SGPT ). The drug interaction that might be happened between
ARV and the other drug which used on patient were zidovudine with
fluconazole
cotrimoxazole, or rifampicin and nevirapine with rifampicin or
ketoconazole.
