<International Standard Industrial Classification>
The ISIC of all economic activities is a United Nations system for
classifying economic data. The UN Statistics Division describes it in the
following terms ;
Wide use has been made of ISIC, both nationally and
internationally, in classifying data according to kind of economic
activity in the fields of production, employment, gross domestic
product and other statistical areas.
ISIC is a basic tool for studying economic phenomena, fostering
international comparability of data, providing guidance for the
development of national classifications and for promoting the
development of sound national statistical systems.
9
<Korean Standard Industrial Classification>
- All economic activities to produce commodities and services by
economic unit are classified systematically to improve the
comparability and consistency of statistics, and to standardize
statistical terms and classifications by applying classification
criteria and principles.
- The Statistics Korea established the Korean Standard Industrial
Classification in order to reflect domestic industrial structure
and changes based on the ISIC of the UN.
- The latest version, the 9th KSIC, was revised on the basis of
ISIC Revision 4 in February 2008.
