1.Oxfordshire. Is primarily known as the
home of the University of Oxford (University
of Oxford), the oldest English-speaking
university in the world. Oxford since the
nineteenth century. Called the "city of
dreaming spiers" (ang. City of dreaming
spiers).
2. In the city there are many buildings and
institutions associated with the university,
including Ashmolean Museum - the oldest
museum in the UK and the Bodleian Library one of the largest and oldest libraries in the
country. In Oxford, the seat of the Oxford
University Press, the largest university press
in the world.
3.Oksford is located in the region known as the Thames Valley one of the richest regions in the European Union in terms of GDP
per capita. The city's economy is diverse. Alongside industries
associated with the university publishing, scientific and high
technology there is also a MINI car factory, formerly belonging to
the enterprise Morris Motor Company (now part of BMW).
Tourism is an important part of the economy of the city.
4.Eklektyczne buildings Oxford University colleges in particular, represent all
architectural styles in the history of England - from the Saxon buildings in the
tenth century, the medieval Gothic and Tudor style of the rich Baroque
architecture. The latter is represented by the many buildings designed by
famous architect Christopher Wren English and Nicholas Hawksmoor,
associated with the university
5.Oksford is (next to Cambridge), one of the most popular tourist cities in the
south of England, due to the nature of the university town, well-preserved
architecture and proximity to London. The city was visited in 2008. 9.1 million
tourists (for comparison Krakow is visited annually by approx. 8.6 million
people).
6.Miasto (in particular, the building of the university) is
often used on the set of Hollywood film production, which
contributes to the favorable attitude of the university
authorities issuing permits for filming. Movies filmed in
whole or in part in Oxford include X-Men: First Class (2011),
The Golden Compass (2007), Harry Potter and the Goblet
of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
(2002), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), 102
Dalmatians (2000) and Fish called Wanda (1988).
10.Wioślarstwo is a popular sport in the city, both among college students
(the world famous Oxford University Rowing Club, rowing teams of the
different colleges) and locals (Oxford City Rowing Club). Thames rowing
regatta, where students compete against each other during the academic
year. In the summer regatta Oxford City Regatta, competitions between
teams of colleges and municipal teams. Another popular sport is rugby
among students.
Oxford has no significant football club. Oxford United F.C. currently
playing in League Two (fourth division in English). The club has Kassam
Stadium located in the east of the city of 12 500 people. The second is a
club Oxford City FC, the nature półamatorskim, playing in the Southern
Football League. Oxford Cheetahs speedway club was a five-time
champion of the UK, most recently in 2001. The club disbanded in 2007.
