 We already own most of these chemicals - 3
solutions can be stored on the shelf longterm.
(Bromine water and glucose solution should be
made fresh.)
 Cyclohexane? 500 mL = $10
Cyclohexene? 500 mL = $37
 Conclusion? For $47 we can do this lab
“forever”! (Assuming 1 class with 15 groups, 6
drops per group, 20 drops/mL…4.5 mL per
class… that’s over 111 school years! )

(1) permanganate, (2) “bromine”
(bromate=BrO3-), (3) bicarbonate, (4)
dichromate)
