Plum fruit is sweet and juicy and it can be eaten fresh or used
to make juices. Dried plums are known as prunes..
Prune marketers in the US are marketing their product as "dried
plums", because "prune" has negative connotations connected
with elderly people suffering from constipation

SUGAR ALCOHOLS




Sugar alcohols are a type of carbohydrates
called “polyols.
" Part of their chemical structure resembles
sugar, and part of it resembles alcohol.
Examples are maltitol, sorbitol, isomalt, and
xylitol.
They contain fewer calories than sugar

Sugar alcohols are not completely absorbed
by the body .
They can ferment in the intestines and cause
bloating, gas, or diarrhea
LABELING



Sugar alcohols must be listed in the
ingredient list.
Included in the carbohydrate listing on the
nutrition facts label, either in the total or on
a separate line for sugar alcohols.
If the product is labeled “sugar-free” or "no
added sugar," the manufacturer must show
the sugar alcohol count separately.

ADA suggests limited use… no more than 2
serving per day.
Clients with medical conditions such as
