SUMO-BOT CONSTRUCTION
Remote control cars can be used IF modified
Electric power, Radio remote – no wires
School name on the bot
Must be able to operate on three frequencies
Max size 40 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm at any time during the competition
Max weight of 2.0 kg, includes batteries, does not include remote
Combined voltage of all batteries in the bot must be 14.4 or less
No projectiles, flames, sharp objects, magnets, pneumatic devices
SUMO-BOT COMPETITION
Double Elimination Tournament
Impound – everything : bots, tools, batteries, controller
No recharging facilities, no recharging devices impounded
No work done after impound and before 1 st match.
Ring dimensions: 5.0 ft by 5.0 ft square (smooth, hard floor)
90 second prep - 2 minute rounds – 1st bot out loses – lighter bot wins if neither
is pushed out
Penalties: stalling , driving out of ring -- see handout for more details
May have 2 rings going at same time – depends upon number of entries
Can work on devices between matches – must work in the controlled area.
SUMO-BOT SCORING
Intentional damage to another bot or the ring will result in disqualification
1st – Tournament winner
2nd – Tournament runner up
3rd and on – ranked by number of wins
Tie breakers
total times of lost matches divided by mass (higher is better)
mass (lower is better)
Bots that don’t meet specs will ranked below all compliant bots and will not be
allowed to compete in main tournament. Non-compliant sub-tournament possible.
