ELECTRICITY!
SERIES AND PARALLEL
CIRCUITS
Just jiggle it!
HOW MANY PATHS CAN CURRENT
TAKE IN A SERIES CIRCUIT?
HOW DOES A SERIES CIRCUIT
DIFFER FROM A PARALLEL CIRCUIT?
In a series circuit, there is only
one path for the current to take.
All the parts of series circuit are
connected one after another.
Series circuits are simple & inexpensive
to design but have major disadvantages.
- If one bulb burns out, they all go out!
- As more bulbs are added, the current
decreases & the bulbs get dimmer.
When batteries are connected in series
their voltages are added together!
Parallel circuits provide several
paths for current to take.
When batteries are joined in parallel,
the voltage stays the same.
When batteries are joined in
parallel, the voltages are added .
Household circuits are parallel circuits.
