Nanotube

element, usually carbon.

What is a Carbon Nanotube?
• A carbon nanotube is a one-atom thick
sheet of graphite rolled up into a seamless
cylinder with diameter of the order of a
nanometer
• A Nanometer is 1/100,000,000 of a meter
and nanotubes range in size of 3 nm to 30 nm

Who first Discovered Carbon
Nanotubes?
• In 1991, a Japanese scientist by the name
of Sumio Iijima discovered fullerene
related carbon nanotubes
• He also noted that there were
approximately 80 different types all with
distinct properties
• Carbon Nanotubes can be up to 50 times
stronger than steel
So Why Carbon Nanotube
Displays?
• Carbon Nanotube Displays require much
less energy
• Feature more-vivid colors than LCDs
• Nanotechnology is making displays
potentially less expensive allowing displays to
be larger and cheaper than before
So When will I see a Carbon
Nanotube Display?
• According to companies like Microsoft,
Canon, and Toshiba we can expect to see
Carbon Nanotube Televisions and
Computer Monitors by 2007 or 2008
Carbon Nanotube Televisions are projected
to start at around $1,300 but a price for
computer monitors has not been released
