Mission Overview
MISSION
• Test and compare a solar panel power system and a propeller
power system
• Measuring temperature
• Taking pictures
WHY?
• To understand which power generation system is most effective
under different environments

Test Results (Camera Test)
-Over 800 pictures taken during two tests
-Camera takes unobstructed pictures even while moving.
Test Results (Solar Panel Test)
• Exposed to sunlight, analyzed readings from Arduino
• Started inside- low output
• Moved outside- high output
Test Results (Propeller Test)
TEST 1
Partially functioning; inconsistent turning of propeller
TEST 2
Propeller system did not function
TEST 3
Propeller system did not function
TEST 4
New propeller design functioned well; consistent spin at wind
speeds over 35 mph
Test Results (Comprehensive Test)
-System ran for two total hours
-Gear motor circuit not completed
-Everything else ran smoothly
Prepping for the comprehensive test
Test Results (Cold Test)
-Cold Test returned inconclusive
-The test showed that it remained well above -10 C, but the external
temperature remained at -20 C
-Retesting on Wednesday when the weather is much colder
Test Results (Drop/Whip Test)
DROP TEST 1
Structure left intact with damage to one corner
DROP TEST 2
No major damage to structure
Small dents
WHIP TEST
No damage to structure
all internal parts intact
Predictions
Solar panels
-Stronger when higher
Propeller
-Needs 60kph winds to be effective
-At 15000 meters, it will be most effective
Comparison
-Solar panels perform better overall
-Propeller has its moments
-Tropopause
-Rapid descent
Concerns
• Gear Motor is weak
• Inconsistent wind on the propeller
RFP/Proposal/Requirement Compliance
Structures - 1.2.2 (Dehumidifier)
- 3.1.2 (propeller is now side mounted instead of top)
C&DH
- 5.3.1 (no longer have our own gps altitude data)
Power
- 2.2.2, 2.3.2 (no longer are recharging the batteries)
