Definition of Fairy Tales
• Fairy tale means “fanciful tale”.
• It is story that has been passed down
from generation to generation. Usually
it is passed down orally.
• These stories are meant for children.
Definition of Fairy Tales
• Fairy tales exist in all different cultures.
• A legendary deed takes place in which
an act is performed by a hero.
• Contemporary fairy tales are moral or
ethical stories. Lessons are taught and
learned.
Characteristics of Fairy Tales:
Characters
Usually fairy tales have imaginary animals
or people. For example dragons, elves,
gnomes, trolls, giants, and witches.
The characters are fanciful creatures who
are involved in extraordinary adventures.

Setting
The setting of a fairy tale is identified
as an undefined time and place. It
typically takes place in an “unknown”
environment that does not necessarily
exist.
