Introduction
Vimanmek Mansion
The purpose of the research
project
• To
study, analyze, and process knowledge about the
gingerbread wood carvings in Vimanmek Mansion
• To study the design priciples of Abaya embroidered fabric
(black dress for muslim women) and the usage of color in
the openwork design
• To study the technique of creating embroidered and
openwork fabrics
• To use the knowledge acquired in 1,2,3 to create designs
for Abaya (black dress for muslim women) for the target
age group of 25-35 within Bangkok Vimanmek Mansion
Research Methodology
Conceptual framework of the research project
Finding
The researcher has collected data from the field
studies, referring to the 6 photographs of the
perforated wood work in the Ginger Bread House
style at Vimanmek Mansion. The criteria for analysis
are: Shape, Color, Material, and Decorative Purpose.
The data is then used to develop creative designs for
embroidered openwork patterned fabrics for
Muslim women aged 25-35 in Bangkok in the next
stage.
Sample 1
Shape
Using lines and curves,
the patterns are taken
from natural motifs,
such as flowers, leaves,
integrating the
patterns together in a
continuous motion and
repeating patterns.
Color
Only one color is used
throughout the pieces,
with a darker
concentration of color
as the frame to draw
attention.
Material
A painted wood
material is used in a
matte and glossy
pattern.
Decorative Purpose
The piece is used to
decorate stairs
banisters, covering the
whole length.
Sample 2
Shape
Leaf pattern and
motifs are assembled
together into
geometric bouquets.
The pattern within
the frame is
horizontally
symmetric.
Color
Material
The piece usesa
Perforated wood,
contrasting color to
matte finish
the frame, which is
light brown and
green, which is a
color pairing inspired
by nature.
Decorative Purpose
The piece is used to
decorate the area
above doors and used
as ventilation through
the perforated
patterns.
Sample 3
Shape
The patterns resemble
flower petals placed
together to create
geometric shapes. The
pattern within the
frame is horizontally
symmetric.
Color
Material
The piece uses a
Perforated wood,
similar color to the
matte finish
frame, which is white
and light brown, to
create harmony.
Decorative Purpose
The piece is used to
decorate the area
above doors and used
as ventilation through
the perforated
patterns.
Sample 4
Shape
A motif of cascading
flowers is used to
make a horizontal
patter.
Color
Only one color is
used throughout the
pieces, with a darker
concentration of
color as the frame to
draw attention.
Material
A painted wood
material is used in a
matte and glossy
pattern.
Decorative Purpose
The piece is used to
decorate the roofs.
Sample 5
Shape
Color
Using lines and curves,
the patterns are taken
from natural motifs,
such as flowers, leaves,
integrating the patterns
together in a continuous
motion, vertically
symmetric, with a
horizontal pattern
placement.
Only one color is
used throughout the
pieces, with a darker
concentration of
color as the frame to
draw attention.
Material
A painted wood
material is used in a
matte and glossy
pattern.
Decorative Purpose
The piece is used to
decorate the guard
rails on the balcony,
covering the whole
length.
Sample 6
Shape
Color
The pieces uses lines
and curves,
integrating the
patterns together in a
continuous motion,
vertically symmetric,
with a horizontal
pattern placement.
Only one color is
used throughout the
pieces, with a darker
concentration of
color as the frame to
draw attention.
Material
A painted wood
material is used in a
matte and glossy
pattern.
Decorative Purpose
The piece is used to
decorate the guard
rails on the balcony,
covering the whole
length.
Operating Results
The researcher concludes the design of openwork
perforated fabric for Abaya based on the pattern of
perforated woodwork at Vimanmek Mansion for
muslim women aged 25-35 years in Bangkok. 3
outfits were created from the data collected in
chapter 1-3 as follows:
