Giraffes
By Connor
The giraffe
lives in the
tropical
grasslands
in Africa.
Tropical
grasslands
don’t get
much rain.

Plants in this Biome
Baobab
Tree
Tall trees
grow in the
tropical
grasslands.
Acacia
Tree
Acacia trees
have long
thorns that
keep most
animals from
eating the
leaves but the
giraffe can
eat around
the thorns.
Baobab trees
have a thick
trunk to store
water.
A giraffe’s favorite
leaves are from the
acacia tree. It also
likes leaves from
the jackalberry
tree. A giraffe has
to go to watering
holes to drink
water.
A giraffe
is tall and
has a long
neck to
reach and
eat
leaves.
Lions hunt
giraffes when
the giraffe is
getting water
at the water
hole.
Crocodiles
will hunt
giraffes too.
Defenses Against Predators
Giraffes go to
watering
holes together
so that
crocodiles
and lions
don’t attack
them.
Giraffes can
kick really
hard and run
fast, like 30
miles an hour.
I think the giraffe would not survive in
another habitat if it was moved.
 If a giraffe was in the desert, it could
not find acacia trees.
 The Arctic Tundra is too cold and
there is too much permafrost so a
giraffe would not survive.
 The problem with a giraffe in the
forest is that it is too crowded with
trees that the giraffe doesn’t eat.
