My Kidney Bean Project

Problem
Will a kidney bean grow
faster in a pot of soil or
in a ziplock bag?
Hypothesis
I believe that the kidney bean
in the pot will grow faster
then the one in the bag
because without the nutrients
in the soil, the kidney beans
will not be able to germinate .

1 Pot
2 soil
3 ziplock bag
4 h 2 o water
5 a grid
6 tape
7 red kidney beans
8 green house
9 measuring cup
Procedure
( growing beans in a pot)
1 Get a pot and fill it
with soil up to the rim.
2 Place the kidney beans
in the soil at least 5 cm
apart .
3 Cover the beans with
soil.
4. Water your plant.
5. Put it in the green
house.
Procedure
(in the bag)

The first thing I did was ,get a ziplock
bag,a towel paper, ruler, tape.
I created a 1cm by 1cm grid on the towel
paper.
I placed the beans on the grid by taping
them down.
I placed the paper towel in the bag.
I put 2 oz of water in the bag.
Collecting Data…
Data


A bean is the seed of a
bean plant. When the seed
germinates, or starts to
grow, small parts inside
the seed grow into the root
and stem. Most of the seed
is used for food by the
young plant. When the
plant grows green leaves it
begins to make its own
food by photosynthesis.

Kidney beans develop best
in a controlled
environment which
includes proper moisture
and nutrient levels.
Data

Kidney beans are often an
excellent dietary selection,
as they contain no
cholesterol. As a source of
potassium, kidney beans
provide a source of nutrition
that is similar to that of a
potato, but with only a
moderate amount of
carbohydrates. Kidney
beans also contain trace
amounts of iron and
calcium.
Conclusion

During my experience I had two plants and I
wanted to see which one would grow faster .After
a few weeks the plant in the pot was growing the
biggest. The one in the bag stopped growing after
a few weeks. The plant in the pot started to grow
bigger. Based on this project I was able to prove
part of my hypothesis. Both plants started to grow
at the same time however the plant in the pot
survived longer then the one in the bag.
