Connecticut became a state on January 9, 1788.
Connecticut was:
• the 5th state added to the United States.
• one of the original 13 colonies.
Abbreviation: CT
State Flag
Qui Transtulit Sustinet is Latin
for "He who transplanted still
sustains.”
Grape vines represent the colony that was brought across the
Atlantic Ocean and planted in the wilderness.

It can grow up to 6 feet high.

Harriet Beecher Stowe
• Born in Litchfield, Connecticut in 1811.
• Moved to Cincinnati where she came in
contact with fugitive slaves.
• Authored Uncle Tom’s Cabin in 1851.
• Spent her life speaking against slavery both in
America and Europe.
