Purple loosestrife is a perennial wetland herb that grows in

disturbed habitat. It is native to Europe and was
accidentally introduced into North America in the mid
1800’s. Purple loosestrife stems are erect (1½ to 9 feet
tall), smooth, with simple leaves, which can be opposite or
whorled. The striking rose to purple colored flowers are
arranged on a spike which can be a few inches to 3 feet
long
