Introduction
• What is a biome? A
biome is a unique
ecosystem that
contains animals and
plants.
Climate
The location of the
Arctic Tundra is in
Antarctic and North
America. The Tundra is
a very windy place and
winds can blow up to 30
to 60 miles an hour.
Climate
Winter temperatures
average 18 F to -8 F
summer temperatures
range from 37 F
to 60 F. only about 6-10
inches of precipitation
(mostly snow) fall each
year.
Plants
• The Tundra biome has a
plethora of amazing
plants.One of these Plants
is the Bear Berry.The Bear
Berry grows low to stay
out of the Arctic chill .It
has fine silky hairs that
also keeps it warm
.Leathery leaves is also an
adaption to the Bear Berry
Plants
• .Another plant is the
Pasque flower .The
Pasque flower has several
stems that rise 6-8 inches
off the ground .The
Pasque flower like the
Bear Berry also grow
close to the ground
.Another plant is the
Diamond-Leaf Willow
Plants
• On the Tundra the
Diamond-Leaf Willow is
known as the name Sura
.Amazingly enough Sura
is ten times richer in
vitamin C than oranges .It
is also rich in vitamin A
and calcium .Another
amazing plant is the
Tufted Saxifrage
Plants
• .The Tufted Saxifrage can
grow in thick mats on the
Arctic Tundra .The Tufted
Saxifrage is a small
Perennial .It has several
straight flower stems
which can get 3-15cm
high.
Animals
•
Many animals
make the Tundra
their home. The
Caribou lives in the
Arctic regions. It
is a sturdy animal
with short
legs. It's heavy
coat keeps it warm
during the long cold
winters.
Animals
The Musk Ox is another
animal that is able to
survive in the harsh arctic
conditions. Its
24" long hair and wooly
undercoat provides
insulation.
Animals
• The Arctic fox uses
his keen smell to
located animals hiding
under the snow. He
uses his sharp claws to
dig into the snow and
catch his prey or dig
an underground burrow
to stay warm.
Animals
• The polar bear make look
white but his skin is
actually black! This
means he can absorb the
warm sun that helps
keep his warm. His
white coat has two
layers that keeps him
dry and warm, and helps
him catch his prey while
protect him from
predators.
Conclusion
• We have just told you
about the Arctic Tunra,
we hope you have
learned something
about this scenic
biome. Maybe you
will get a chance to
visit this biome.
