Grasslands: Temperate grasslands are
composed of a mix of grasses and forbs and
underlain by some of the world's most fertile
soils. Since the development of the steel plow
most have been converted to agricultural lands.
There are different regions of the world that
have temperate grasslands.
Annuals- plants with a one year life cycle.
Browser- an animal that prefers to eat tender
shoots, twigs, and shrubs or leaves.
Fodder- coarse, dry food, such as hay.
Grazer- an animal adapted to eating grasses.
Composting- the decay or break down of
organic matter.
The grasslands in Africa don’t have many trees or
bushes to hide many animals. Because of the open
landscape and the spaced trees, grasslands are home to
large herds of mammals such as the zebra and bison.
Animals such as lions or jaguars are the main predators
in these grasslands.
Prairie grasslands contain animals like foxes or wolves,
prairie dogs, birds, and snakes.
