Read page 6-11 in your Jason Project
books (you need to share!)

atmosphere at a given
time and place.

The Water Cycle and the Sun
(2)
• The Sun (1) powers the
water cycle.
• Solar power causes
water in the ocean (5)
to evaporate (3) ,
condense (2) into
clouds and fall back
to Earth as precipitation
(4).
Earth’s shape and tilt
(3)
• Earth is round.
• Different parts get
different amounts of
sunlight.
• The equator gets the
most direct sunlight.
• The poles get indirect
sunlight.
Cause: Air pressure
Effect: Wind movement
• Air pressure differences
cause wind.
• Wind is moving air.
• Warmer areas have low
pressure (higher in
altitude.)
• Cooler areas have high
pressure (lower in altitude.)
• Air likes to move from high
pressure areas into low
pressure areas.
• On the BACK of your
notes is our
weather chart!
WE will fill this out
together so please
keep these in your
NOTES section!

• Heat moves aroundConvection,
Conduction, and

Radiation
to
• Types of weather
KNOW:
• Types of fronts- cold
front & warm fronts
• Measurement tools for
weather- thermometer,
barometer, rain gauge,
hygrometer/psychrometer
• Sea Breeze and Land
Breeze differences
• Air pressure in weather
• The TROPOSPHERE air is
constantly moving too.
• There are CONVECTION
currents of air.
• Warm air from the equator
moves toward the poles
and cold air from the poles
moves toward the equator.
Thinking about our Weather
• How does weather
affect air travel and
safety?
• How does daily weather
affect YOUR afterschool
plans?
