Frogs
Define Endangered Species

An Endangered species is a native species
that faces a significant portion of it’s
range.
What is the typical/ average size of
your endangered species ?

The size of a frog varies by species age
and gender.
Life span

The longest life span entered was a
European Common Toad at 40 years and a
Giant Toad 7-24 years Ornate horned frog
5-12 years.
Describe the Diet

A frog mainly lives on insects and small
animals like earthworms ,minnows, and
spiders.
Population
There are approximately 4,740 species of
frogs around the entire world.
 There are about 90 species of frogs in the
US.

Habitat/Location
Frogs live in ponds, creeks, and trees
 Most prefer moist regions. Though frogs
are air breathers ,they can stay
underwater for long periods of time and
breath through their skin.

Typical Behavior

Frogs are known as indicator species and
can give scientist valuable insight into how
an ecosystem is functioning.
Threats

One of the most pressing to frogs today is
the chytrid fungus ,a deadly skin fungus
that has moved across the globe.
Enemies/ Predators
A frogs predators are snakes, lizards, birds
and various small animals like hedgehogs .
 Even under water frogs can’t be safe from
hungry sharped tooth fish, swimming
mammels like water shrews, and even
diving birds! As if that wasn’t bad enough,
frogs even have to watch out for other
hungry frogs.

How can you help with preservation

Create a habitat just for female frogs and
another habitat just for male frogs!
Extra Information

Frogs are amphibians in order Anura. Most frogs are characterized
by long hind legs, a short body webbed digits (toes or feet)
protruding eyes on the absence of a tail. Frogs are widely known as
exceptional jumpers, and many of the anatomical characteristics of
frogs, particularly their long powerful legs are adaptations to
improve jumping performance. Due to their permeable skin frogs
are often semi-aquatic or in habit humid areas but move easily on
land. They typically lay their eggs in puddles, ponds or lakes and
their larvae called tadpoles have gills and develop in water. Adult
frogs follow a carnivorous diet most of arthropods, annelids, and
gastropods. Frogs are most noticable by their call which can be
widely heard in night or day mainly in their mating season. The
distrubution ranges from tropic to subarctic regions but most
species in tropical rain forests.
Extra Information

Consisting of more than 5,000 species distrubuted they are among
the most divese groups of vertebrate. However populations of
certain frog species are declining sighificant.
