National Biodiversity strategies are in different stages (finalised, -still under development)
same for the selection of indicators and set up of action plans
Different starting points, some countries had already a strategy in 2003-2004, for others
It is the first time to do so
Central web portal for the strategy and the indicators ?
In most of the countries there is not one central portal with all information related to the
national strategy, implementation and the indicators
this is due to the fact that besides the environmental sectors also other sectors
need to be involved, however the information systems are in many cases related to one
sector only
In some countries there is a web portal specific for indicators, e.g. in IT, FI there is a steering
group, round tables lead by the ministry for environment,
Neutral body e.g university is in charge to set up the portal
linking between information from other sectors (e.g. WISE, Natura 2000, Wetland monitoring)
For the presentation of the indicators covering all sectors publications are used

1. Which types of information will you focus on?
Monitoring of progress towards the targets - monitoring of the implementation
Most advanced is the monitoring of progress (status indicators)
Monitoring of implementation is more difficult (as it is more political)
Often the mapping of the already implemented actions across different sectors
to the objectives and actions of the Biodiversity strategy is done rather than
looking at specific indicators
It is also a question of timing, as the actions plans are still under development
e.g. in EE
However in IT e.g. there exist 37 reponse indicators that can be considered
as indicators for implementation,
Work is ongoing and not yet visible in the web
DPSIR is framework followed by some countries
ETC/BD
2. How will the different thematic areas be integrated ?
Biodiversity is a governmental strategy (not only carried out by one ministry)
steering committees are used to involve all relevant sectors, lead by env
in some counries indicators are already defined and endorsed by sectors
3. Which information types could be used at the European level
SEBI indicators
Generalse / aggregate from national indicators
e.g. common species (although different species used by countries)
Is same generic topic
Aggregation on broad ecosystem types (e.g. Forest species)
but also comparable functions of indicators
need for more intercalibration (speyifically guidelines for reporting obligations)
National responsibility in European set of indicators important to highlight
ETC/BD
BISE potential tasks most important from a national perspective
2. ensuring continous update, follow up and transparency of the work done
Under the CIF
3. ensuring accessibility, integration and comparability of assessments and
Reporting from national to EU level
1. systematically integration of relevant products form DC etc. to targets of the
EU strategy
-------------4. enabling accessibility and re-use of national products related to CBD reporting
5. uptake and re-use of products from research (relevant to science-policy interface)

CDDA 1
Have you identified any issues to the integration of the CDDA data of your
Country to Protected Planet?
it is not updated often enough, also version / update date not shown
Old boundaries are not not deleted, still shown
species protection sites, labeled as not to be published, but still visible in
Protected planet
No copyright, who is owner of application
information different in WDPA and protected planet, differences unclear
Ownership responsiblity unclear, how is owner who presents application
integration of public data, not clear what are official data
Ramsar sites included, but not yet Natura 2000 sites ???
Visualisation - cartography needs to be improved
Nature monuments are squares, should be points
Meta data missing, e.g. last update circle
Only boundaries, no descriptive data

CDDA
2 Which components of data flow should be activated / added to the CDDA in order
to support the assessment of PAs at European level (e.g. MPAs, info on species) ?
Some countries already report MPA, others not yet
Some partly, e.g. not beyond 12 nautical miles, EEZ sites
to streamline data flow there is a need to
Assure propoer coordination on national level
and proper coordination between EEA and marine conventions (e.g. OSPAR)
WISE Register of PA under the Water Framework Directive
Data not reported for CDDA unless general consensus made with EIONET
Info on habitat type, species within sites, red list species in CDDA ?
Which ones targeted or presence ?
Wait for Inspire implementation
ETC/BD
3 Following requirements of the CBD work programme of work on PA
Concerning 'Standards, assessment and monitoring', which additional
Information do you foresee to add to your current national report on PA
Data not available,
4 What is the state of preparations for the national implementation
of INSPIRE for Annex I protected sites?
Monitoring of progress is part of reporting to Inspire
Good progress, however download services also some problems
Sometimes also too much data
Could EEA provide ArcGIS / potential link with EoE
