NATURE CONSERVATION
NATURE CONSERVATION
A complex interdisciplinary discipline
 It also includes the issue of clean water,
disposal of industrial and municipal wastes,
enforcing new laws on environmental protection
Division:
 protection of species
 territorial protection

SPECIES PROTECTION
An objective - to prevent the extinction of any
organism.
 It promotes the protection of the law laid down „by
species“ => ban hunting, killing, trapping,
collecting, disturbance during breeding
 These include many species of mammals and
birds on the brink of extinction - the peregrine
falcon, wild cat and so on
 Rare species - Elk
 Invertebrates - freshwater pearl mussel, stag
beetle, all kinds of bumblebees

SPECIES PROTECTION
So-called Red Books (lists) are of a great
importance
 These include endangered species - survival is
unlikely
 Vulnerable types are becoming endangered,
because the causes of threats are not
disappearing
 International cooperation is very important for
conservation => formation of organizations and
movements

SPECIES PROTECTION - ORGANIZATIONS AND
MOVEMENTS
International Union for Conservation of Nature
 Conservation research and planning protective
measures
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
 Financial securing for the protection of animals
SPECIES PROTECTION - ORGANIZATIONS AND
MOVEMENTS
Washington convention
 It prohibits and prosecutes illegal trade in
animals, an import and export of ivory, fur,
large animals, crocodile leather etc.
The release and reproduction of endangered
species is also very important.
 => European bison (Slovakia), lynx(Šumava
mountains), Przewalski's Horse (Asia)

TERRITORIAL PROTECTION
Environmental protection
 Limitation of agriculture, forestry, tourism
 The use of chemicals is prohibited,
interventions in the landscape must be
carefully considered

TERRITORIAL PROTECTION
Separation of protected areas:
 Large-area
• National parks– the Giant Mountains, Šumava
• Protected Landscape Area - PLA– included in
the list of UNESCO – Křivoklátsko PLA, Pálava
PLA, Třeboňsko PLA

TERRITORIAL PROTECTION
Small areas
• National Nature Reserves
 The entire ecosystem is strictly protected
 Enter only on reserved roads
 Evolution of life there should be with no human
intervention

TERRITORIAL PROTECTION
