Definition
The definition of the digestive system is the
group of organs and glands that work
together to digest food.
The Process
• First, you chew your food.
• Next, food is mixed with saliva.
• You swallow your food, and it goes down
your throat to the esophagus, to the
stomach.
• Food enters small intestine. In the small
intestine chemical digestion and absorption.
• Food enters large intestine. Most things that
enter the large intestine are waste products.
• These waste products are pushed out
through the anus.

the amount and number of
times a person passes solid
waste.
• Constipation-A condition
in which passing solid
waste is difficult and
infrequent.

Liver, gallbladder, and the pancreas release chemicals into the small
intestine.

Summary
• The digestive system is a group of organs
that helps process food that you eat. The
digestive system allows food to be broken
down while in the small intestine. The
digestive system helps us not have a
stomach aches at times.
