Control - Consistency - Quality
AGENDA
• Brief introduction to Apex.
• Evolution of the Ceramic Anilox. (Laser tecnology)
• GTT Consistency Guaranteed.
• GTT Production Advantages
Global Position
• The world’s largest anilox & metering
manufacturer.
• European Headquarters, Hapert, The
Netherlands
• 5000 customers all over the world
• 80+ Global Sales Force
• Global Technical Application Support
• Worldwide Patent GTT Engraving.
The evolution moves on…
Cells have limits and conventional open
structures their problems
Ink Transfer Explained
Isaac Newton – 2nd Law of Rotation
Kinematics
Angular acceleration , Angular displacement
Angular velocity , Time
Acceleration creates a
G Force
=
a push backwards
Rotation creates a
Centrifugal force
=
A push outwards
Gravity and
anglular changes
=
A state of
acceleration even
when the rotation
speed is constant
Effects of Applied Forces
G – force conventional cell
G – force long cell
Ipro – eflow – HVP
G – force is still applied to
GTT but with no back wall
creates minimal up lift
HOW RELEVENT ARE THE SCIENCE DETAILS
• ANILOX DIAMETER 200.38 MM X Pi = circumference = 629.5 mm
• PRESS SPEED 400 mpm divided by 629.5 = revolutions per minute
• REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE = 635 RPM
• REVOLUTIONS PER SECOND = 10.5 RPS

 Screen structure, width and heights of the walls
are completely under control.
The structure of the GTT profile (90% ink channel / 10% wall)
enables a much more controlled ink transfer.

Measured value: Volume of anilox and density in magenta on the foil
 Despite the same volume, different wall heights (finishing level)
and bigger or smaller cell openings transfer a different amount
of ink!

GTT – Laser Technology
New development - Low powered laser.
Pulse replaced with constant beam.
Programmed surface - No more hole by hole.
Impossible to replicate with conventional laser.

Ink can move over the channels.
Ink can only escape upwards which quickly can
lead to over-colouring and dot gain.
70 L/cm (175 lpi)
screen dot 2%
Pressure causes counterpressure, ink escapes
through the opening.
Result: Over-inking

What does GTT Bring
• Constant results (dot gain)
• Reproducibility from the first
meter through until the last meter
• Standardization & Consistency
Plant to Plant – Country to Country
GTT Consistency Guaranteed
Screen laser engraved quality control
Microscope calibration
Daily check by operators
using calibration tool
When measurements are out of calibration
tolerances, microscope will be re-calibrated
Longer Plate Life
• Any (including Apex) standard or long cell
anilox, whilst passing the printing plate,
acts as a cheese grater on the plate dots.
• The top and bottom cell walls on either
standard or long cells act as tiny knives.
• GTT has no top and bottom cell wall so is
completely smooth.
• Several Large organizations having seen the advantages of GTT now
have group deals with Apex.
Our Commitment
• GTT Brings Control Consistency and Quality to the printing
process.
• GTT Standardization ensures the same results from a GTT
anilox in any press, in any factory and in any country.
• Standardization and repeatability is now a reality in any Flexo
printing business on any printing press.
