About Køge
- Køge became a borough in 1288 - and is with a
picturesque downtown and the largest square
outside the capital, one of the best preserved
cities from the Middle Ages in the country.

than 31 members and it must be an odd number

The role of the mayor
- The mayor is elected from among the town council
members
- Leads political negotiations, including council meetings
held every month and the meetings in the economical
committee - twice a month
- Head of the administration and it is the mayor’s
responsibility to ensure that administrative standards
are respected
- Represents the municipality of Køge and conducts
wedding ceremonies – about 110 civil marriage
ceremonies every year

Elections
Elections to the council take place every
four years – on the third Tuesday in November
Every resident in the municipality over the age of 18
