About “Dão” region:
The Dão D.O.C. was created in 1908 and is situated in central north Portugal next to the
Caramulo, Buçaco and Estrela Mountains. This geographical context protects the area
from humidity of the ocean and from the aggressing winds of the continent thus
creating an ideal microclimate for the vineyards.
The weather, despite being seasoned, it's cold and rainy in winter and very hot and dry
in summer, but there are micro climate variations of great importance to the quality of
the wines.
The vineyards are installed on land of low fertility, with several predominantly granitic
bedrock outcrops that appear to the south and west of the region.

“Curiosity”
"The “burgundy” bottle (round shape) used in “Cardeal” marks the identity of the wines
from the Dão DOC region. It´s a long tradition of using this bottle that has started in a
time where the labeling industry was not developed and therefore the bottle was used to
distinguish the region of origin of the wines.

Touriga Nacional is the dominant variety in Dão and Douro region. It’s considered one
of Portugal’s finest grapes. Touriga Nacional yields inky, full-bodied, powerful wines with
exceptional aromas. It frequently shows blackberry, blueberry, rock rose and rosemary
notes. Its renown has caused its spread throughout all regions from the northernmost
corners and down to the Algarve, and it is even exciting the interest of vine growers
abroad. Touriga Nacional wines age well and gain aromatic complexity with barrel aging.
