Location
The White House address is
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

•
Theme Definition- Location describes where something is. Absolute location
describes a places exact position on the Earth’s surface. Relative location expresses
where a place is in relation to another place.
Essential Element- 1 The World in Spatial Terms
Geography Standards- 1 How to use maps and other tools 2How to use mental maps
to organize information 3 How to analyze the spatial organization of people, places,
and environments
Explanation- The White House represents location because it has a specific address
and is located in a zip code area. It also has a relative location such as NW
Washington D.C..
Secondary Themes- I think place has a connection to location because it will describe
the features that make that location different.
Place
Mount Fuji standing in front of the city
below. Mount Fuji Physical and the city is
a human characteristics.
•
•
•
•
•
Theme Definition- Place describes the physical and human characteristics that
make a location unique.
Essential Element- 11 Places and Regions
Geography Standards- 4 The physical and human characteristics of places 5
How people create region to interpret Earth’s complexity 6 How culture and
experience influence people’s perceptions of places and regions
Explanation- Mount Fuji is making this city a unique place. It gains the beauty
of the mountain. The city below makes it unique by the language and customs it
performs.
Secondary Themes- I think place ties on with region because the characteristics
that place describes, region will then share a other place to have the same
common characteristics.
Regions
•
•
•
•
•
Theme Definition- Regions are areas that share common characteristics.
Essential Element- 11 Places and Regions
Geography Standards- 4 The physical and human characteristics of places
5 How people create region to interpret Earth’s complexity 6 How culture
and experience influence people’s perceptions of places and regions
Explanation- The temple shares the religion, customs, language, and food
of all Buddhist. They also share the characteristicsof how their temples
look.
Secondary Themes- Place has a great connection with regions because
place will describe all of the characteristics that the region has.
The Buddhist temple shown
here is one religion that
connects with all over the world.
Movement
This cargo plane is carrying goods from
one place to another.
•
•
•
•
•
Theme Definition- Movement explains how and why people and things
move and are connected.
Essential Element- 1V Human Systems
Geography Standards- 9 The characteristics, distribution, and migration of
human populations 10 The complexity of Earth’s cultural mosaics 11 The
patterns and networks of economic interdependence 12 The patterns of
human settlement 13 How human actions modify the physical environment
Explanation- Movement in this photo is showing how some ways goods can
be transported or moved. The cargo plane shown will carry goods to far
away distances such as, across a country or a continent.
Secondary Themes- I think location is related to movement because when
humans want to move its always about location. A good on the other hand
may be suited to that location, and if it went to another location it would be
out of place.
Human- Environment Interaction
•
•
•
•
•
Theme Definition- Human – Environment Interaction describes the
relationship between people and their environment.
Essential Element- V Environment and Society
Geography Standard- 14 How humans actions modify the physical
environment 15 How physical systems affect human systems 16 The
meaning, use, and distribution of resources
Explanation- In this picture a man is hunting the deer. The deer is part
of his environment and he is taking the deer’s skin, antlers, and meat
back home to eat, use for decoration, and to sell the skin for money.
Secondary Themes- I think that regions has a big part in HumanEnvironment Interaction. Regions share common characteristics and
when humans interact with the environment another person around
the world could be doing the same exact interaction with the
environment.
In the picture above a man has just
hunted a deer.
