Location - Where is it?


Absolute location – position on the globe.
Usually found by latitude and longitude.
Latitude – imaginary lines that run
parallel to the equator and measure
north and south.
Longitude – imaginary lines that run
parallel to the prime meridian and
measure east and west.
Relative Location – position of a place in
relation to another place. Example –
New Orleans is South of Memphis.

Place – What is it made of?

such as climate, terrain, landforms,
etc.
Human characteristics
How many people live there, what
language do they speak?
Regions – How is it similar to
another place?

Region - a group of places with at
least one common characteristic. It
can be either a physical or human
characteristic.

Movement is how people, goods, and
ideas move from place to place.

This theme is how people use the
environment. Think of this theme as
the way that people and things in
nature exist together.
