NO MANS LAND
FOUNDATION
Report: Republic of South Africa, Hammanskraal orphanages summer 2010
Tshwaraganang is a place of safety for orphaned, abandoned and abused children as well as a
centre providing food for those in need. Located in Hammanskraal about 100km from Johannesburg
South Africa.
Gauteng
Hammanskraal is a
small town in the state
of northern Gauteng,
South Africa which
serves a large rural
community.
Gauteng means
Goldregion. Most of the
gold is found in this
part of the world.
• Population Gauteng
9,2 million.
Hammanskraal between
5.000 - 10.000
• In comparison with the
other provinces in South
Africa, the second
highest HIV prevalence
among pregnant women
is followed by Gauteng
with 29.6%
• Mother-to-child
transmission (MTCT) of
HIV infection can be
prevented by
appropriate treatment.
However, while their
infants survive, the
mothers do not, and
children are left in the
care of other family
members, or
orphanages.
•Majority of the
population lives below
poverty line
The area in which the orphanages are situated is one of the poorest regions in Hammanskraal and
called Unit 7. New borns, (sexual) abused and abandoned children are infected with HIV and
neglected by their parents. Many children are being taken care of by volunteers at the orphanage.
Orphanages in Hammanskraal miss some basic functions to be able to provide the children with
decent food and shelter.
Orphanages and schools in this region do not receive support from the government for education
or for household. But even so non-profit organization Tshwaraganang currently runs a feeding
scheme for approximately 200 children, and shelter 48 children per day.
These children already have an unfair start in life because of all the named reasons. No Mans Land
Foundation creates an opportunity for you to help them.
We must
use
time wisely and
forever realize
that the time is
always
ripe to do right.

If there are dreams about
a beautiful South Africa,
there are also roads that
lead to their goal.
Two of these roads could
be named Goodness and
Forgiveness.
