KENET Traffic
• Google cache static traffic over 2 Gb/s (YouTube)
– Has a capacity of up to 4 Gb/s
• Google dynamic traffic (searches and e-mail)
– 1.5 Gb/s, 50%utilization
– Peering with local Google PoP
• KIXP traffic remains at about 150 Mb/s but capacity 1 Gb/s on Nairobi
fiber ring
• National Distribution capacity (KENET links + leased lines)
– 1 Gb/s port for 30+ universities on last mile fiber
– 7 universities on 10 Gb/s Nairobi fiber ring
– Inter-PoPs 150 Mb/s , increase to 1 Gb/s
• International download traffic about approx. 2.5 Gb/s but capacity
4.35 Gb/s
– Private Peering with Wananchi provides access to Akamai cache (500 Mb/s)
– Private Peering with Google at 1.5Gbps, AfricaConnect at 150Mbps (Link
capacity 1Gbps)
