Prerequisite of the project
 Research and development, technical support, expert analysis
and application of multimedia and telecommunication solutions
in different industries
 Realizable project of the town’s educational communication
network
 Necessarily of the application of the latest and modern
multimedia technology to research and education sphere
 Topicality of the creation of photo and video structured archives
of Dubna University and JINR with powerful components of
retrieval and access
 Requirement in reduction of priceson telephony and multimedia
at the expense of integrating this services into local and global
networks

Main directions
1: Development of the systems which assists in
collecting, indexing, storing, retrieval, access on demand
toward the media materials
2: Creation and processing of media materials
3: Videoconferencing and Internet – broadcasting
4: Development of the technical projects connected with
the multimedia sphere
5: Research and education activity
Primary intent is a supporting research activity by way out
to a new level of visual representation of scientific,
research and experimental data at JINR and large scientific
collaborations.

DV Lab Studio
The studio, located in LIT JINR, gives a wide opportunity for a full process
of video edition. Based for the present on two high-performance
workstations using for Real Time DV editing, DVD authoring and
premastering hardware and SVHS professional VCR, digital video cameras
to produce scientific, eduactional and demo video content
Short hardware specification:
• Intel Pentium 4 2400 Mhz, RAM 512 Mb, Total AV-Array 400GByte
• DVD recorder Pioneer A05 (DVD-R/DVD-RW technology)
• System for nonlinear Real-Time DV video editing – Pinnacle PRO-ONE RTDV
• Soft: Adobe Premier 6.5, Hollywood FX 5.5 and similar

Technical solutions in implementation stage
A videoconferencing system between Physical Dep. of
Moscow State University (Moscow) and a branch of
SINP MSU in Dubna has been developed in the context
of supporting education process by using multimedia
technologies, distant education and savings on costs
This will allow one to organize a lecture with students and
post-graduates in the branch by Moscow lecturers. And of course,
these lectures will be taken by remote auditorium at the same time,
as if they being in Moscow.
Network environment – Internet and Virtual Room
Videoconferencing System (VRVS). IP achievement has been
chosen, because it is cheap and easy realizable

Hardware realization for videoconferencing system of such
manufacturers as Polycom, Tandberg or Sony, was not chosen, because
they do not provide flexible utilization for every component depending
on different situations
Network requirement is: Internet connection with 1 Mbps minimal speed
Wide functional capabilities enable to realize presentations and
cinemas demonstrations with stereo sound
Internet Broadcasting
Videoconferencing is not very convenient, because the user should install any
special applications or even devices for receiving audio and video data. In this
case the internet broadcasting in different formats is more preferrable. The
routine practice allows one to make its good use in next situations:
1. Scientific forums and conferences
2. Distribution educational media content
3. Telecast any actions for unlimited audience all over the world
Available formats: Real Audio&Video, Windows Media and QuickTime
Operational experience allows one to configurate the broadcast server as
required. And user should have only a software application, in most cases
integrated in the operating system installed on PC, or available as a free
downloadable software, like:

IP Telephony and related services
Advantages:
One of the line of investigations is IP telephony services. This
direction has been developed in frames of the JINR networking
infrastructure and the city educational local area network. This
will provide using a way for wide range of services, which are
very simplify and reduce the price of the communications
between scientists and other people.

 Integrated abilities of audio conferencing and video conferencing,
using specialized IP phone devices
 Centralized direction, tuning, statistics gathering and monitoring

University “Dubna” realized as a part of SQL based library’s
information system MARK has been tested
