• ONE of the Solutions Presented to GELS BoF so far
• Use Lower 24bit of MAC Address for Ethernet Label
• Obtain 24bit of OUI Number from IEEE
• Bi-directional Label (Includes Up/Down Stream Label)
- Simple to send FEEDBACK to Ingress if something wrong
• May use with 802.1Q (VLAN)

•
Ingress Encapsulates IP Packets in GMPLS-Ethernet Frames
• GMPLS Core Bridges Forward Ethernet Frames to Egress Edge
•
Edges Must Divide 224(=16,777,216) Label Space (Address Block)
•
Label is NOT Swapped in This Model

Label Swapping

• MAC Address Label May be Invariant in Local Range
• It Needs to be Swapped at Different Administrative Domain
• e.g.) Between Provider Network
• MAC Address is NOT Unique
• Label Swapping Improves Scalability (Global Scale)
• Label Swapping Allows Local Assignment

Decapsulation
• User Frame can be Encapsulated by Provider MAC
• MAC-in-MAC performs better than Q-in-Q
- No MAC Explosion Problem
• Edge Bridge Requires Encapsulation Capability
Why LSE is Good ?
• Does Not Change Ethernet Behavior
-
MAC Learning, Spanning Tree, Broadcasting, VLAN, …
Non-GMPLS Frame Flows are NOT Affected At All
Ethernet, GMPLS are Bi-directional  So is LSE
Semantic Change of MAC address ?  no side-effect
• Backward Compatible with 802.1D/Q Bridges
- NO-Homogeneous Deployment !!!
- LSE only Controls GMPLS prefixed Frames
- Smooth Transition from Ethernet  GMPLS
• Good to apply in Aggregation/Core Network
- Considering Future Extension to Local/Access…
