(a) Two Ethernets connected by a switch.
(b) Two Ethernets connected by routers.
In Physical layer, networks can be connected by repeater or hubs,
which just move the bits from one network to an identical network.
In data link layer, network can be connected by switch and bridge.
They can accept frames, examine the MAC address, and forward
the frames to a different network.
In the network (IP) layer, we have routers that can connect two
networks.
In the transport and application we have gateways.
