We use TINA foundations
• Distributed Processing using CORBA is everywhere
– All TMN is now choosing CORBA and IDL/UML tools
– Most Servers like IN use CORBA internally
• Convergence of telephony and IT techniques happened
– Voice over Packet replaces/extends the PSTN
– GPRS, UMTS data, Internet NAS mix technologies
– Convergence added value came (Unified mails, IN@IP...)
• TINA boosted IT & IP understanding in our companies
– TINA trials are well known in ATM and 3G-Mobile R&D
We use TINA Business model but

TINA Products
Some courageous trend-setters choices in 97/99
• Sprint
– ION early implementation: ATM always on services
using the full TINA architecture and objects
• Starvision
– SCMS-25000: TINA based control and management
system of Atm and IP networks
– offered in conjunction of MM conferencing
• A few TINA-like inside products, like Alcatel
1000E10 DHA
Our achievements:
TINA pre-industrial
• TINA Tools, beside the UML/OMG toolkits
– TINA-ACE from CSELT
– Y.SCE from GMG Focus
– Platytool from Telstra
• Many TINA trials (non extensive list) on ATM and NM:
– European projects (most manufacturers)
– CDOT trial, and most operators R&D trials
• Platform and TINA components: Alcatel MU3S
– product derived from European platform ALCIN
• Few decisions to convert them to industrial products...

Example of Full TINA compliance
Alcatel Mu3S
Used in Geneva 99, another to KPN and their customers,...
• Full TINA platform with all the reference points
specifications/code, objects,...
• The stability of the platform amazed R&D.
• Services spanned the entire space from e-content to
broadband content delivery: added value on top of ADSL,
ATM service managt, ...
• Most visitors were more impressed by the TINA demo than
by the services demo!
• Soft transition to the 3G Mobile MM Application Server in
the same R&D team.

FULL DPE
• Mu3S relies on the TINA session model
• 3 alternative DPE were built -> terminals

Alcatel
A TINA Success Story:
(Telecom Service Access & Subscription)
OMG TSAS
• Most of the specification is based on TINA specs
Restructured and simplified;
aligned with Parlay 2.0 specs.

• It is used in Industrial 3G Mobile Core Network
nodes, like Alcatel MMCS and MMAS
Next TINA Success Story:
OSA 99
(Open Service architecture)
• A 3G Mobile standard by 3GPP,ETSI SPAN12,& ITU-T
– OSA for UMTS release 99 has been finished and approved; work is ongoing
for R 2000
• It is based on the OMG TSAS

Alcatel MMCS and MMAS
Conclusion
TINA for next years
• The TINA techno arrived before its time
– Corba was not mature
– the Internet based interfaces force was underestimated
• If the original goal was too ambitious (one computing model all across the net),
the application to the Service level is now granted
– Network abstract model, TINA simplified in OSA
– to become more distributed (SIP like) than Call centric (OSA like)
• The model will live
– QoS in IP should resurrect stream binding notions
– Open frameworks to feed a community of 3rd party services is a
neverending fashion!
• Above all, TINA Core teamers are a network of HIGH
POTENTIAL PEOPLE in our companies
