

Adding video to asterisk
Justin Zondagh

Cross Protocol Rerouting of communication
sessions
They will study iLanga and Asterisk in depth
Background


The Computer Science department
currently uses a telephone service, iLanga
Connects different networks,



E.g. SIP <> H.323 <> PSTN
Manages prepaid credit, voicemail etc.
The phone I am improving is one type of
end device used in iLanga
The SIP/H.323/AIX telephone




Programmed and manufactured in China
One type of end device used in iLanga
Comes with an API which allows the
phone to be reprogrammed
Will soon be offered to a number of
students in residences
Objective of Research


Study the API and code of the phone
Make the telephone more suitable for our
purposes


This involves improving the display, improve
other aspects such as the meaning of LEDs
and buttons.
Possibly work with a Masters student and
implement encryption
Approach to the Study




Read about asterisk and iLanga and find
out how they work
Learn about the protocols the phone uses
Study the phones API, and the code
(about 2mb of c) and how to compile it
Learn more about embedded systems and
how to update the phones flash memory
with the new code
Aim of the Project


Improve the phone so that it is suitable for
our purposes and for the use in residences
Why not get a better phone? – This one is
