District networked computers give students access to a
variety of educational programs, applications programs as well
as the Internet.
Providing a safe environment for using the Internet is
done by educating students about the Internet including the
pros and cons of the Internet world.
BP’s Network System
• Windows NT 4.0 system with 500 PCs connected
– OMG!!! Classrooms
– Labs and media centers
– Administrative and clerical offices
• BP’s network system is used by our administrators, teachers, clerical staff as well as
our students
• District network – secure system for all users
• Network system analysts to monitor and manage system –
• Not private – district property
• BP’s Student Guidelines for Computer Network and Internet Use posted
in classrooms and labs
• Guidelines sent home so you may read and discuss with parents

for Middle Students 7-8
• Use only your unique ID or Username
• Do not share your ID or password
• Computers are for educational and
approved research purposes
• Respect the district’s property
• Respect other users’ property / files /
personal background
• Internet Usage with teachers’ approval
and monitoring of purpose
• No free “surfing”
7-8 Student Internet Use
• BP’s Internet may NOT be used by students:
– For email, I-ming or chatting
– For business, contests or buying goods
– To promote political or religious institutions
– To download materials not appropriate for
minors or harmful to the network system
– Forging, plagiarism or infringing on copyright
laws
• Students may not enter personal or family
information on an Internet site.

Computer application, integration, and
information processing are part of BP’s
curriculum and the NYS Standards.
A parent who has objections to Internet use by their child at school should:
•Send written notification to bldg. principal
•Review / discuss objection with teacher
When objection persist – an alternative form of instruction that does
not include Internet will be used.
Home-School Partnership
As with other safety issues, parents and schools together
discuss, teach and monitor students on safety issues until they
have a better understanding of the environment.
Education is a proactive approach! Recognizing a problem or
a danger before it becomes a serious one and developing
procedures on how to avoid the hazards or pitfalls of the
Internet is a joint responsibility of parents, school, students.
and the community.
Our school has established rules for Internet use at BPMS that
all students are expected to follow. Families should to establish
ground rules for children using the Internet at home.
If students learn to use technology safely and
appropriately, the benefits out weigh the disadvantages!
Review of Guidelines
–Computers are to be used for educational purposes
–Use your private user ID and password for BP’s network
–Do not use another students’ ID
–Do not harm network or destroy data of another user
–Do not tamper or change computer system setups
– Follow copyright laws, do not copy software or other
students’ files.
–Do not remove district equipment, files, software etc.
from their location
–Do not upload or create computer viruses
