Ancient Greece:
A Tour Around Athens
Introduction
• I can the daily life for Athenians during the Golden
Age.
• Why? It is important to know what the daily life was
since the Renaissance will be all about bringing back
Greek and Roman culture, we need to know what daily
life they wish they had back.
Overview
• Athens was one of the two most important city state in Greece. At that
time it was known as the city of learning. Many thinkers came from
Athens, people watch interesting plays and there were beautiful buildings.
Question time!
• Imagine you have a friend you met from another country. They are coming
to visit you and want to know as much as they can about the wonderful
town called, “Shepherdsville”. When they arrive, you give them a tour.
• Get out a piece of paper and choose 5 of these topics and write a brief
description of what they would see in Shepherdsville regarding these
topics.

What will you learn today?
• This activity will teach you about the daily life of Athens long
ago. See what is similar and what is different.
• There are 10 stations. You will get into partnerships of no
more than 3.
• I will pass out 1 folder to each group.
• You will have 4 minutes to complete the tasks inside the
folders.
• When the timer goes off, you will send your folder to a new
group and get another folder. DO NOT CHOOSE A
FOLDER YOU ALREADY HAD.
• After this is done, I have some questions for you to
answer for an exit slip.

Athenian History, the “Golden Age”?

SLIP
• Imagine you were from a small town far from Athens
and you moved to Athens recently. You just
completed a small walkthrough of the town, now
write a letter to someone back home detailing
everything you saw. Tell as much detail as possible
about Athens.

• In one page, answer:
• “In what ways have the Ancient Greeks influenced
the world today?”
• Think about things like government, medicine, ways
of living, ways of thinking, etc.
