The Discobulus
This is a marble
remake of the
statue
Discobulus by
Myron. He is
credited as being
one of the first
to carve statues
with people in
action or
motion.
Heniokhos
Heniokhos or
the Charioteer of
Delphi is an
ancient statue
where the artist
is not known,
however judging
by its style it is
most likely from
Athens.
Apollo
Sauroctonos
The Apollo
Sauroctonos by
Praxiteles shows
a young boy
killing a lizard
with an arrow.
This shows the
Paraxitelean
curve of the
body.
Harmodius and
Aristogeiton
Harmodius and
Aristogeiton is
an important
sculpture by
Antenor. The
statue
symbolizes the
establishment
of Athenian
democracy.
Heracles
Amphora
This is Heracles
Amphora by
the Andokides
Painter, who is
thought to be
the inventor of
the red figure
style of
painting which
this vase is
done in.
Heracles
entering
Olympus
This is Heracles
entering Olympus
by The Amasis
painter done in the
black figure style.
He is called this
because much of
his pottery is
labeled “Amasis
made me”
Apollo and
his raven
This is Apollo
and his raven,
named so for
obvious reasons,
on a bowl. It was
done by the
Pistoxenos
Painter, using
the whiteground
technique.
The Parthenon
The Parthenon
was a treasury
building built by
Iktinos,
Kallikrates, and
Phidias for
Greece. This
replaced the
older Parthenon
which had been
destroyed.
Woman bearing
offerings
This is a
figurine called
woman bearing
offerings by an
unknown artist.
It is a figurine
made for
religious
functions.
The Propylaea
The propylaea
was the
entrance to the
Acropolis of
Athens built by
Mnesicles. The
top picture is
how it looks now
while the
bottom picture
is how it would
have looked.
The Stoa
of Attalos
The Stoa of
Attalos was
reconstructed in
the 1950’s. King
Attalos II built
the stoa (An
enclosed town
center) to thank
Athens for the
education he
received there.
Riace Warriors
The Riace
Warriors are
bronze statues
of two warriors
dubbed A and B.
The artist is
unknown and
are surviving
from ancient
Greece, found in
1972.
Achilles
Penthesileia
This is Achilles
Penthesilia
painted by
Exekias. It is
done in the
black figure
style and shows
a battle taking
place upon it.
Reveller
Courtesan
Reveller
Courtesan is
done by a group.
The potter is
Euphronios and
the painter is
Onesimos
(which means
profitable so it
could have been
a nickname).
Hoplitodromia
This vase is by
the Berlin
Painter and it
shows a man
running a
Hoplitodromia
which was a race
in the Olympics
while the
runners wore a
shield and
armor.
