LMH FAST PASS Security System

Fast Pass secure stations will be
maintained in the Hospital
Lobby, the MOC (Medical
Office Center) Lobby and the
Emergency room entrance.

All visitors/students will pass
through the Fast Pass, showing
their state identification card
and receiving a photo ID, to
gain entrance into the building.

All visitors must give the room
or the reason for their visit.

Photo passes will be good for 1
entire day only.

Expectations:



Clinical faculty responsible for supervising students
in the performance of procedures and patient care
LMHS Staff are responsible for the care of the
patient
All medications administered must
be co-signed by RN and/or Faculty.

Students MAY NOT:
 Take
telephone or verbal orders
 Sign off orders on medical record
 Act as a witness for any document or consent
 Give any medication without the co-signature
of the Faculty or a RN

Students MAY NOT:
 Give
or regulate PCA’s, epidural medications or
chemotherapy medications
 Use auto transfusion devices or Hang Blood
 Chart or Edit Electronic Assessments
 Perform any invasive procedure on children
under one year of age unless under the direct
supervision of a staff RN from the department
in which the child is a patient
What NOT to Bring in
Patient Care Areas

NO cell phones in Patient Care Areas-any technology that may
jeopardize a patients rights or violate confidentiality is absolutely
NOT ALLOWED. Only during breaks in appropriate locations (i.e.
lobby, outside, break rooms)

Cellular phone use must be 5 feet away from any medical
equipment.

NO Text Books in Patient Care Areas

NO Food or Drink in patient areas (exception-bottled water
with secured cap)
“Customer Service”

Students are NOT to park in the VISITOR Lots!!!!! If caught
security will take down car tag info, look up names and school
affiliation. It will be documented and may directly affect future
employment with LMHS. PLEASE…Park in Employee
Parking Areas ONLY Please!

Use the service elevators!
LMHS administration is serious about this, as it hampers our
ability to care for patients and families.
What the Nursing Staff
Expects

No more than 2 students assigned to the patients of
any staff nurse

Document all activity, AM or HS care, intake/ouput
after meals, and bathroom assistance related to
patient care in the electronic health record.

Vital signs are to be done timely per the unit
routine. “Real Time Charting” is a must!

Document at computers in the hall. Try not to
utilize the staff nurse work area if possible

Expects



Communicate significant findings or status changes
immediately.
Communicate to the primary nurse when you leave the
unit for breaks or leave at the end of the day. (Include
anything that has not been done)
Students should not be congregating in hall or at nurses
station.
No Students to be present in
the room during Codes &
MET calls

Although we realize the value in learning and
observing Medical Emergency Team (MET)
calls and Cardiac/Respiratory Arrest, it has been
advised that it is distracting and too crowded for
students to be present unless they were directly
involved with the care of that patient.

Accessing your own computer medical
records, or those of friends or family is
STRICTLY PROHIBITED!

Employees should not use employee sign-on
while functioning in the role of student at any
time.


 Personal e-mail
 Non-work related internet sites
Social Networking…



Social Networking is NOT permitted while at
LMHS or on any LMHS Equipment.
For your protection DO NOT post any
privileged, confidential, copyrighted or company
issued documents.
Anything obscene, vulgar, defamatory,
threatening, discriminatory, harassing, abusive,
hateful, or embarrassing to a LMHS employee,
patient or business partner is prohibited.
Students are NOT to
perform Blood Sugar
Checks


Students and Faculty are not to perform blood sugar
checks with the Accucheck machines at any time on any
Patients, Visitors or themselves-even if the nurse
offers…DECLINE!
USE OF THE GLUCOMETER WITHOUT
TRAINING, OR USING THE METER WITH
ANOTHER EMPLOYEE’S ID NUMBER IS
CONSIDERED FRAUDULENT
DOCUMENTATION, AND IS GROUNDS FOR
DISCIPLINARY ACTION.

 Blue =Do Not Resuscitate (DNR Imprint)= No code
 Green =Restrictive Resuscitation
 Yellow (Fall Imprint) = Fall risk
 Pink = Extremity use precaution
 Purple = Anticoagulant precaution
