then four years of
medical school and
then two years of
internship.

Dermatologist- a doctor that
takes care of skin problems
Endocrinologist- a doctor that
takes care of pt. with endocrine
diseases.
Epidemiologist- a scientist that
studies disease occurrence in
population and ways to
prevent and control disease.
Gastroenterologist- A doctor
that takes care of pt. with
stomach and intestinal
problems





Anesthesiologist- A doctor who
puts people to sleep for
surgery
Cardiologist- a doctor that
takes care of heart problems
Chiropractor- a doctor that
manipulates your bones and
muscles
Oncologist- a doctor who takes
care of pts. with cancer.
Pathologist- a doctor that
performs autopsies and
diagnosis diseases by studying
cells, tissues, and organs

Gynecologist- a doctor that
specializes in female
disorders.
Hematologist- a doctor that
specializes in blood disorders.
Nephrologist- a doctor that
specialized in kidney disorders
Neurologist- a doctor that
specializes in diseases of the
nervous system
Dietetic technician- a health
care worker that plans nutrition
programs to help both sick and
healthy people who need to
improve their nutrition.




Obstetrician- a doctor that
specializes in female
disorders.
Ophthalmologist- a doctor that
specializes in eye disorders
and can perform surgery on
the eye.
Optician- health care worker
that orders, prepares, and “fit”
eyeglasses and contact lenses
for pts. based on a prescription
Orthopedist- a doctor that
specialized in bone disorders.

pts. Chart and gathers pt.
data.
Health Care administratorleads and manages
hospital, clinics, and other
health agencies.
Physical therapy aide- is a
career that can be pursued
as an on-the-job training.
Occupational Therapy assistant- a
health care worker that aids sick or
injured pts. who are learning to
handle the activities of daily living ,
such as dressing, eating, or
maintaining their home.

specializes in treating pt.
with foot and ankle
disorders.
Proctologist- a doctor that
specializes in treating pts.
with disorder of the rectum.
Psychologist- a doctor that
specializes in treating pt.
with mental problems.

that specializes in ear, and
throat disorders.
Pediatrician- a doctor that
specializes in treating
children from age 0-21
Plastic surgeon- a doctor
that specializes in treating
pts that need reconstructive
surgery

Surgeon- a doctor that
specializes in treating pts
needing surgery. This
profession requires a
doctorate degree with postgraduate training in this
area.
Urologist- a doctor that
specializes in disorders of
the urinary system

Pharmacist- a doctor that
specializes in dispensing
medications. They may
specialize in a variety of
areas and usually work in
hospitals, health
departments, and
community pharmacies
Veterinarian- a doctor that
specializes in treating
animals. Go to school 8
years.

Technician- is a highly
visible health
professional who
provides life-saving
care at the scene of an
accident or for sudden
illness.


Biomedical equipment
technician- repairs and
maintains high
technology, life saving
devices.
Medical records
administrator must
have a Bachelor's
degree.
Physician Assistant



Must complete either a
two year or four year
undergraduate degree
then complete a two
year degree for your
PA.
Must also have clinical
experience.
They may work under a
physician.
Nursing


Certified Nursing
Assistant- must
complete a certification
Licensed Practical
Nurse- Must complete
12 month course. Then
they must pass NCLEX
exam for their license.
Registered Nurse




Must complete a two or four
year program
Two years and associate
degree- may obtain this at a
community college
ADN
Four year degree- may
obtain this at a university
BSN
Must pass the NCLEX-RN
exam.
Registration




The medical professional is
placed on a list.
Licensor, certification, or
registration ensures that the
health care worker has met
minimal requirements of that
career.
An example of a career in
which one must pass an exam
administered by a regulatory
board and maintain on a
current list is an/a registered
dietician
Certification, licensure, and
registration of health care
personnel is necessary to
protect the consumer/patient
