database
•create a new database
using Access database
wizards, pages, and projects

Opening Objects
Double-click an
object name to
open it.
Select the type of object you
want to work with in the
Objects Bar.

Adjusting Column Widths
Double-click the vertical line between column
headings to automatically adjust the width of the
column to the length of the longest entry (Best Fit).

Finding Records
Click the Find button on the
Database toolbar to display the
Find and Replace dialog box.

Adding Records
Click the New Record button
on
the Database toolbar.
 Key data in the fields pressing Tab
or Enter to move from one column
(field) to the next.
 Access automatically saves when
you press Tab or Enter after the last
field in a new record.


Deleting Records
Click the Delete Record button
on the Database toolbar.
 Access will display a message asking
you to confirm you want to delete
the record.


Sorting Records
Click in any row in the column you
want to sort by.
 Click the Sort Ascending
or Sort Descending button
on the Database toolbar.
 To sort multiple columns, select the
columns first and then click Sort
Ascending or Sort Descending.


Clipboard Toolbar
Use the Clipboard toolbar to copy
several different items and paste
them in various locations.

The Office Assistant

Using the Office Assistant:
click the Office Assistant, key your
question, and then click Search
 click a topic in the yellow box
 read information in the Microsoft
Access Help dialog box


If the Office Assistant is not visible:

click Help, and then Show the Office
Assistant

Compacting and Repairing a
Database
When records are
constantly added and
deleted, data can
become fragmented in
the database file.
Periodically, run the
Compact and Repair
utility to reduce the
disk space the file uses
and ensure optimal
performance.
