Assist teachers in recalling the math they
once knew in order to take and pass the first
two CSET subtests, which cover the subject
matter requirements for the Foundational
Level Credential

Awaken an understanding of the need to
learn more math in order to teach better

Demonstrate some teaching strategies to
help enhance teaching




Current middle school math teachers who
need to earn additional credentialing in order
to be highly qualified
Career changers who have appropriate
background in math but need a refresher in
order to take and pass the CSET exams
Elementary teachers who wish to make the
move to middle school
Teachers credentialed in other areas, in order
to be more “marketable”

Content is based on the CCTC requirements

◦ Subtest 1: Algebra and Number Theory
◦ Subtest 2: Geometry and Probability and Statistics
CCTC requires this content for “subject
matter competency” for a Foundational Level
Credential in math

Teaching style: combination of problem
solving and direct instruction

40-hour institutes, one for each of the first
two subtests

Instructed by teams: one from CSUSB math
faculty and one K-12 math expert

Preferred schedule: 8 hours/week over a
period of 5 weeks

Provide materials written by ICMP instructors
with content and practice.
