Global Competency Program
• The Swampscott High Global
Competency Program seeks to
challenge students to see beyond
the horizon of Swampscott and
recognize the importance of
comprehensive and
interdisciplinary studies.
• Our goal is to guide students in a
broad, multi-cultural education to
make them thoughtful contributors
in the world.
• The core component of the
program is international
awareness.
• Students will be geographically,
politically, historically and
culturally aware.
• Swampscott High School has
added several new electives that
support and promote the Global
Competency Program.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Students must complete a sequence of a
spoken language other than English.
• Students will perform a prescribed
amount of community service with a
global theme.
• Students will participate in international
travel and/or locally global events, or host
an international student.
• Students will take a minimum of 10 credits
of globally focused electives in several
academic areas.
• Students may begin to work
towards their Global Competency
certificate in their freshmen year.
• Student will create a Global Project
showcasing the sum of their
experiences from their global
education. They will also formally
present their project to the school
and community.
• Upon completion of the Global
Competency Program, graduating
seniors will have notation on their
transcripts and receive a GCP
certificate.
