Laterals, Lines, and Poles

immediate way in which to protect the substations and
lateral lines from hurricane winds.

LINES: First and foremost, FPL must protect the lines.

How Municipalities can help FPL

1. We are prepared to offer "eyes & ears" to FPL by utilizing our Public Safety personnel and
other city personnel (Police, Firefighters, Public Works, Code Enforcement Officers, and COPS
members (Citizens on Patrol).

2. FPL can provide the necessary training to our staff so they can properly identify damaged or
leaning poles, natural obstructions such as overgrown trees touching power lines etc

3. The City will report these needs to FPL through an agreed to reporting system.

4. FPL will acknowledge receipt of report and agree to remedy the problems within a certain
time period.

5. The City will produce a quarterly report for the City Commission as well as the PSC that will
include pole ID’s, location, date reported, and status.

6. FPL will produce a quarterly report on how many of the complaints were addressed.
Minimum training of city staff would be necessary, we would not touch or repair anything, we would simply
report the problem. Our citizens would then be in a position to contact the City as well to report
problems as opposed to trying to deal directly with FPL. By asking citizens to report the problems to us
we are also gaining additional eyes and ears.
SUMMARY

No Silver Bullet – the solution can’t be found
with one study and will not be accomplished by
one or even a few approaches.

FPL MUST Commit Resources to Infrastructure!

Municipalities, even with limited resources are
willing to help!
