1. BACKGROUND

The importance of domestic tourism for making
planning and decision in the tourism sector

As a main component in compiling the TSA,
both national and regional

Data of domestic tourist is obtained from
National Socio Economic Survey (NSES), which
is done quarterly since 2011 (before it is carried
out annually)

• The sample for each quarter : 75,000
households
• From the NSES, we only get the total number
of domestics tourist quarterly (VSEN.K Block
IVA)
• The figure of household trip from this survey
become a sampling frame for the module trip

• The purpose of domestics survey (module
trip) is to get the profile/characteristics. length
of stay. and the expenditure of domestics
tourism
• The survey covers 91 regency/municipality in
all 33 province in Indonesia
• Enumeration carried out using questionnaire
VRTJ 2013
2. METHODOLOGY
A. Selection of Regency/Municipality
From a sampling frame of regency/municipality,
a sample of 91 regency/municipality is selected
with Probability Proportional to Size (PPS) with
a size number of household trips.
B. Selection of Household
 Sampling frame is a frame of the sample
regency/municipality that are equipped with
information on the number of households trip

3. CONCEPT AND DEFINITION
DOMESTIC TOURIST:

Indonesia resident who travels voluntarily within
Indonesia territory outside his/her usual
environment. less than 6 (six) months and his/her
purpose of travel is not for studying or earning
wages and salaries in the place visited, and he/she
 Travels to commercial tourism object, and or
 Stays in hotel or commercial accommodation,
and or
 The distance of round trip is equal or more than
100 km

4. CONSTRAINT AND CHALLENGING
• size of sample: could not be used to estimate
domestic tourist for regional level (too small)
• limitation of budget: it could not be done every
year
• Sample coverage: (majority in low and middle
income)
• In 2015, the NSES will carried out twice a year
(March and September), then the information
about domestic tourist only captured in March
(loss the seasonal)

 Using
the accommodation survey to get
the information about domestic tourist (VHTL)
 Collect the hotel guest by foreign and
national
 Using the information from domestic
transportation (sea, land, and air) of
number of passenger
