• Do not use texting shortcuts.
• Check for spelling and other errors.
Texting Etiquette

• Only use if potential employer has sent you a text first.
• Keep texts short and only use shortcuts when absolutely necessary.
• If there needs to be a discussion – call. If there needs to be documentation – email.
• No texting during meetings, interviews, meals, or driving.
Social Networking Etiquette
• LinkedIn is the most important! - Entertainment Technology Center Alumni group.
• Facebook – Entertainment Technology Center
• Employers use these as a source of information to make a hiring decision.
• Great tool for creating your personal brand.
Communication by Phone
Telephone Technique
• Use first and last name when calling a professional or answering a call from an unknown
phone number.
• Always be pleasant.
• Don’t eat or chew gum. Don’t open mail or shuffle papers. Always give the caller your full
attention.

• Give your name on the message and no fancy jingles or distracting sounds.
• When leaving a message, please give your name clearly and your phone number slowly. In
fact, give you phone number twice so the listener will not have to playback the message.

• Be courteous and considerate of those around you. It is not appropriate to use the phone in
very public places such as mass transit, public restrooms, and full lobbies.
