device, operating under the
control of instructions stored
in its own memory

are used to process data
• A system unit includes a board called
motherboard

known as:

component that interprets and
carries out the basic
instruction that operate the
computer

• It consists of electronic
components that store
instructions waiting to be
executed and data needed by
those instruction

Set of four basic operations :
• Fetching: it is the process of obtaining
a program instruction or data item from
memory
• Decoding: used to translate the
instructions into signals the computer can
execute
• Executing: it is the process of carrying
out the command
• Storing: writing the result to memory
