Electronic State Gazette – official source of Estonian law, also un-official English
translations of most important laws can be found there. Since 2007 State Gazette is
published only in electronic form.
•
Digital signature – enables concluding agreements digitally. Legally equal to a
written form and in some cases also equal to notarial authentication.
•
Online voting – votes at Estonian parliament, local council and European
Parliament level elections can be cast online. At last Estonian parliament elections
25% and at last European Parliament elections ca 1/3 of the votes were „e-votes“.
•
Establishment of a LLC – limited liability company can be established online in 15
minutes.
•
Communication with the business registry – all communication with the
business registry is online (filing annual reports, amending corporate documents,
changing board members, etc.)
•
E-School – communication between school, students and parents is also online

Taxation is online – checking tax information, filling and submitting tax returns,
paying taxes, etc. is fully online (both for natural and legal persons). Filling out and
submitting a standard private income tax return takes less than 5 minutes.
•
State registries are maintained online – all official registries are maintained and
accessible online, e.g. Land Registry, Central Registry of Securities, Business
Registry, Motor Vehicle Registry, Registry of Trademarks, Ship Registry, etc.
•
Communication with public authorities – all communication between the public
authorities and citizens can be via e-mail and with digitally signed documents
•
E-court – exchange of documents with court and between parties is done either via
e-mail or via special E-Court system. Attorneys and state officials are not allowed to
submit documents in any other form, but electronically.
•
E-Medcine – prescriptions are submitted only electronically and patients medical
records are kept online.

• Not a right, but a privilege, i.e. if
mis-used then the online-ID can
be taken from the person.
