 Media impact First Beam, 10 September: very large coverage in all
media (press, TV, radio, Web), Switzerland did certainly profit as a
homebase of CERN, also very intensive coverage in advance of the
event (mainly about black holes and the upcoming apocalypse)
 Media impact World LHC Computing Grid goes online, 3 October:
smaller media coverage
 Media impact LHC Inauguration Ceremony, 21 October: quite a large
coverage despite the shutdown of the machine

Fundraising for action plan:
 funds received from ETH Board to build up a Swiss LHC Website
(www.swiss-lhc.ch),
 letters of refusal from several foundations (reasons: too large
international project, black holes not good for publicity),
 promise of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research for
a base funding of the LHC communication in Switzerland
(about 30'000 Euro per year)

 Planned: Official launch of the website www.swiss-lhc.ch on 14 May
(premiere of the film "Angels & Demons" in Switzerland)
 Fundraising event after start up of the LHC (end of September/
October) to get money for other actions (exhibit, teaching material etc.)

PR Strategy
Swissness (focus on experiments made by Swiss groups,
technological innovations by Swiss hightech companies)
Access to information (tailor made communication tools for
specific target audiences such as teachers etc.)
Networking (platform for all stakeholders from science,
politics, industry, media, schools to promote dialogue)

● LHC simulator touring through Switzerland (20 biggest towns)
● Showing an attractive video: Back to the beginning of the universe –
a journey through space and time from the perspective of an
accelerated LHC proton; ● onsite specialists/documentations
