What is COMMUNICATION?
• The accurate transfer of information from a
sender to a receiver.
• When we communicate, we speak, listen,
and observe

• The Communicator
• Effectiveness is determined by
– Attitude
– Selection of meaningful symbols
– Depends on audience and environment
Message
• A communication in writing, in speech, in
symbols
• Message is either verbal, auditory, or
visual
Receiver
• The person/machine/animal receiving the
message
• Also a communicator if they respond.
Feedback
• Verbal or nonverbal reaction or response
• Allows communicator to adjust message
and be more effective if needed.
• Without feedback, there is no way of
knowing if communication took place.
Communication Barriers
• Communication Barriers are the various
obstacles and hurdles which may arise
during communication and lead to
misunderstandings and misinterpretations
by the receiver.
Types of Barriers
• Internal
– physiological or psychological in nature.
• External
– outside the body, in surrounding environment.
