Transcript Communication in an electronic society

What is communication?
Communication is a form of
interaction in which messages
are sent through some kind of a
channel by using a contextual
code.



First revolution in communication (educated
minority, writting and reading, limited to a face to
face oral culture);
Second revolution (Gutenbergs invention of
mechanised printing);
Third revolution (electronic media, mass media
communication).



Began with the electronic revolution;
New way of communication by electronic signal
transmission;
Electronic signal is transmitted
from a source via some channels
to a recipient (transmission and
then decoding of signals).
By the use of the Internet, people have the
ability to transmit and receive large
amounts of information quickly to and
from individuals and groups from around
the world.
The culture of computer mediated communication is
refered to as the culture of real virtuality (Castells
2003). In this reality we live reality via electronic
media in which there is no real time and no real
space.

Many economic activities
previously oriented to the
local markets are now
expanding their horizons
to the global level.

The accumulation of capital is
enabled by networks.
Capital can be invested globally
in all activities via these networks
such as the:
informatics industry, media
business, agricultural production,
health, education, technology,
transport, trade, tourism, arts and culture,
property, religion, entertainment, and sport.




Advertising is creating mass markets;
Powerful forces use computer media to influence us
with their ideologies for their
commercial purpose;
Advertisers use bulletin boards
for trade and commerce;
The most obvious of the media
messages designed to persuade is advertising.


One of the phenomena of the Internet is businesses
and organizations sponsoring and supporting
discussion groups about issues and products that are
relevant to their specific organizations;
Sponsorship gives an opportunity for further
communications and marketing.
Electronic
 effectively create, process
and apply the information
based on knowledge.
Global
 capital, manpower, raw
materials, management, informations, market
technology is organized on a global level.


A networked society consists of the connection of
nodes and centers between multinational companies.
–metanetwork;
The new way of capitalism is informationalism.
In e-society computer medium is a panel of different
opinions, views, theories, options, global-projects,
investigations, economics, science, tourism,
marketing, but also cultural and political views
Computer media enable autonomy (from political,
economic, and military restrictions),
decentralization of communications systems and
openess to global communications.
Each person’s voice is valuable and essential for the
“critical diversity” that is needed to raise important
questions, notice oppressive power relations,
critique social conditions, and reach new levels of
consensus and understanding.
Excluded society
 People who do not have
access to the Internet, or
computational skills
miss opportunity
for the freedom, equality,
justice, democracy and autonomy promised by the
Internet..



Books, magazines newspapers and
lots more knowledge sources;
Chatting is a good way to learn;
It has been proven that
computer-assisted instruction
produces more learning than
conventional classroom
instruction.


The mass media binds communities together by
correspondence and chatting;
Entertainment online such as the movie, music,
games, news, and magazine industries also connect
people.
Some brakes for social globalization by networks
 Misinterpretation in mass media communication;
 Redefining the community
In e-society individuals interact, exchange ideas,
share information, provide social support, conduct
business, direct actions, create artistic media, play
games, engage in political discussion using this
global network.
But there is one question when this e-society will not
be privileged? Its up to all of us to try to find
solutions to that problem.
